DESIGN
Logitech MX Master 3
The Logitech MX Master 3 has a clean, professional appearance that is similar to the Logitech MX Master 2S, with slight styling variations. It isn’t as flamboyant as other gaming mice and has a more professional appearance. Because of its size, the Logitech MX Master 3 isn’t the most portable. It’s quite huge and may not fit in most laptop bags. On the plus side, the MX Master 3 is wireless, so no cables are required. The build quality of the Logitech MX Master 3 is outstanding. The mouse is composed of solid plastic and is quite sturdy. The scroll wheel has a slight wobble, but this should not hinder its durability. The latex grip material and substantial construction give the mouse a high-end feel.
The Logitech MX Master 3 is hefty and lacks weight optimization. The ergonomics of the Logitech MX Master 3 are excellent for right-handed users. The latex covering provides a good grip and ensures good mouse control. A large thumb rest portion can also be tapped to activate gesture controls. This mouse is a little huge; therefore, it’s best suited to larger hands if your hands are smaller.
Logitech MX Master 3S
The Logitech MX Master 3S has the same appearance as the previous generation Logitech MX Master 3; it has a solid plastic shell, rubber grips, and metal scroll wheels. On the left-click button is a ‘Logi’ logo, and on the left side is a little LED battery light indicator. Because of its big size and thick style, the Logitech MX Master 3S isn’t a very portable alternative. The Logitech MX Master 3S is extremely well-made. The materials appear to be high-quality and long-lasting. There are no loose parts, and when squeezed, the mouse does not creak or make any sounds. When you shake the mouse, there are no rattling sounds. However, the primary scroll wheel wobbles somewhat in its casing. This, however, is not evident during typical use. In comparison to other productivity models, the Logitech MX Master 3S is quite weighty.
The Logitech MX Master 3S is designed to be used right-handed. The buttons are neatly positioned, and the materials have a high-quality feel to them. A gripping rubber covering wraps across the huge thumb rest, palm area, and full right side as well. Overall, it’s a huge mouse that may be difficult to operate if you have extremely small hands.
CABLE AND VERSATILITY
Logitech MX Master 3
Excellent wireless connectivity. Because the wire on this mouse is merely for charging, you’ll need to connect it via Bluetooth or its specialized receiver. The cable on the MX Master 3 is better than the cable on the prior generation. It’s comparable to the previous one, except it now connects to the mouse via USB-C, which is a step up from micro-USB. The cord is only for charging and is wrapped in rubber, which can snag on desk items.
Logitech MX Master 3S
The Logitech MX Master 3S, like previous versions in the series, can wirelessly couple with up to three devices at the same time and switch between them using the button on the bottom of the mouse. The battery life is also the same as in prior models. According to Logitech, this mouse includes a 500mAh rechargeable battery that can last up to 70 days on a single charge. A one-minute rapid charge can also provide up to three hours of use. It should be noted that while using a Bluetooth connection, the polling rate is limited to 90Hz.
The Logitech MX Master 3S comes with a terrible USB-C charging cord. It’s relatively short and hard, but it doesn’t have any kinks from its packaging.
CONTROL
Logitech MX Master 3
When it comes to buttons, the Logitech MX Master 3 allows for some personalization. Everything can be reprogrammed except the left and right clicks and the device-switching button. You may also change the settings of the mouse depending on the programme you’re using via the Logitech software. The scroll wheels on the Logitech MX Master 3 are fantastic. The vertical wheel is incremented and provides decent feedback, and you may unlock it to enter a speedier free-scrolling mode, which is especially beneficial when working with office documents. You can manually open free-scrolling mode by clicking the button underneath the mouse wheel, but it also unlocks automatically when you scroll swiftly. There’s also a side scroll wheel on the mouse’s left side for side-scrolling.
Logitech MX Master 3S
The customization software allows you to customize the majority of the buttons on the Logitech MX Master 3S. The left and right click buttons, up and down scroll inputs, and the pairing button on the bottom of the mouse, on the other hand, is not programmable. You can configure special actions for individual programmes and select between preset or custom gesture controls through the thumb rest button. There are also new ‘Quiet Click’ buttons on this mouse.
The Logitech MX Master 3S’s sensor can track on glass surfaces, which is an unusual feature for a modern mouse. Within the software, you can enable an ‘Extended Sensor Range’ feature, which allows you to change the CPI sensitivity up to 8000 CPI. However, the polling rate and lift-off distance are both fixed and cannot be changed. Only when linked via the USB receiver, can the maximum polling rate be achieved. When connected through Bluetooth, the polling rate is limited to 90Hz on both Windows and macOS.
Both the scroll wheels on the Logitech MX Master 3S are composed of metal and have a premium feel to them. They’re also extremely silent. The top vertical wheel includes a precise, notched scrolling mode as well as a free-scrolling option for fast navigating through documents or websites. This mode is disabled by default, but you may enable it manually by pressing the button behind the scroll wheel. It also activates automatically when you scroll swiftly. Horizontal scrolling is handled via the mouse’s scroll wheel on the left side.
SOFTWARE
Logitech MX Master 3
The Logitech Options software is fine, but it lacks the features of the Logitech G HUB. While you cannot switch between profiles with the mouse, you can set profiles for each programme that you use. You can’t keep the settings in the mouse because it lacks onboard memory, but you can save them to your account if you wish to establish one. Because all buttons operate on both Windows and macOS, this mouse is extremely versatile. Furthermore, because the software is available on all systems, you may easily modify the mouse to your liking. Some programmable features are specific to the operating system.
Logitech MX Master 3S
Logitech’s Options+ software is used to customize this mouse. The software is simple to use and intuitive. You may remap buttons to certain programmes, create macros, and tweak gesture controls. You can also activate the ‘Extend Sensor Range to 8K DPI’ feature to personalize your exact CPI settings up to 8000 CPI rather than configuring your sensitivity with a percentage slider.
PERFORMANCE
Logitech MX Master 3
The Logitech MX Master 3 mouse is loud, but unless you’re in a noise-sensitive setting, it shouldn’t annoy those around you. The click latency of the Logitech MX Master 3 is acceptable. While it’s ideal for recreational gaming, surfing, and productivity chores, it’s far too quick for fast-paced or competitive gaming.
Logitech MX Master 3S
The Logitech MX Master 3S’s left and right click buttons, as well as both scroll wheels, are extremely quiet and will not irritate anyone around you, even in noisy circumstances. The other buttons, such as the mouse wheel click button, are louder, although they are unlikely to offend anyone nearby. Overall, the Logitech MX Master 3S offers a low click latency, making it suitable for recreational gaming, surfing, and productivity applications. It is, however, unsuitable for fast-paced or competitive gameplay.
Earlier variants in the same range use the older Logitech Unifying USB Receiver. The new BOLT USB receiver is used in this mouse. Logitech claims that the BOLT receiver has increased security features as well as range and dependability, especially in areas with a number of other wireless devices. Because this new receiver leverages Bluetooth technology, the click latency performance is extremely similar whether you’re connected via Bluetooth or with the LOGI BOLT receiver. The click delay is larger and less constant than in earlier versions of this mouse utilizing the older receiver, although this is normal Bluetooth behaviour.
GAMING
Logitech MX Master 3
Okay, for first-person shooter games. This mouse is substantially heavier and has a larger latency than other gaming mice. It’s fairly comfortable to hold, but it’s quite large, so folks with smaller hands won’t have the best control. On the plus side, it’s a pretty well-made mouse that should last you a long time. Excellent for MMO games. The mouse has a few configurable buttons, which is adequate but not as many as specialist MMO mice. While its ergonomic design is ideal for palm grip, persons with smaller hands may struggle to get a good grip on the mouse. This mouse is also wireless-only, and its latency is higher than that of typical gaming mice.
Logitech MX Master 3S
The Logitech MX Master 3S is adequate for FPS gaming but not designed for it. It’s extremely well-made and features a comfortable right-handed design that fits most hand sizes. However, it is heavy, has a low click latency, and its sensor isn’t designed for gaming. While its CPI range is adequate for a productivity mouse, it is limited in comparison to many gaming mice.
It also features a low, fixed polling rate, which means your cursor movements will be less smooth and steady than with a specialist gaming mouse. Though not intended for this use, the Logitech MX Master 3S is a good choice for MMO gaming. It’s extremely well-made and has an ergonomic right-handed form. It doesn’t have as many buttons as a specialist MMO gaming mouse, but the customization software allows you to reprogram them. Regrettably, its sensor isn’t designed for gaming. It has a modest polling rate, and while its CPI range is rather broad for productivity use, it is relatively restrictive for gaming models. The click latency is adequate for leisure gaming but not for competitive play.
CONCLUSION
The Logitech MX Master 3S and MX Master 3 are two identical productivity mice from the same range. The MX Master 3S is a newer model with various enhancements. It has quieter left and right click keys, as well as a sensor with a larger CPI range. It also employs Logitech’s new USB BOLT Receiver, as opposed to the previous generation MX Master 3’s older Unifying USB Receiver.
