ROCCAT Burst Core
The ROCCAT Burst Core has a simple design and symmetrical shape that is identical to the ROCCAT Burst Pro. It has a solid, matte-black plastic body with hexagonal accents on the sides and a ROCCAT emblem printed right behind the hump’s crest. It has one RGB zone directly on the mouse wheel that may be modified or used to indicate the DPI switch.
Also, it features a little brushed-metal-looking surface surrounding the mouse wheel housing while being constructed of plastic. The ROCCAT Burst Core features an excellent build quality that feels robust and has only a little flex on the underside. The body is solid matte black plastic, with no squeaks or wobbles from the mouse wheel or buttons. Despite the absence of a honeycomb design, the ROCCAT Burst Core is extremely light.
ROCCAT Burst Pro
Between Burst Core vs Burst Pro, the ROCCAT Burst Pro has a basic design with a honeycomb internal shell covered by a transparent outer cover. It has RGB lighting that can be customized along the scroll wheel and inside the mouse, visible through the honeycomb pattern holes. The back has a logo, but the rest is very simple.
The version we tried was all-black, but it’s also available in white with a black center part and black side buttons. Even though there is a little flex when pressing on the bottom near the sensor, this mouse feels very well-built and solid. The ROCCAT Burst Pro, like other honeycomb mice we’ve tested, is very light, though there are no weight optimization options.
COMFORT
ROCCAT Burst Core
This mouse has an ambidextrous, generally symmetrical design, but both side buttons are on the left. It does not come with any additional side grips or rests. A palm grip should be suitable for any hand size. With a claw grip, you may not be able to reach the side buttons comfortably if you have small hands. If you have small hands, you may have problems going both side buttons with a fingertip grip.
ROCCAT Burst Pro
Even without side grips or a finger rest, this mouse is pretty comfortable. It is designed to be ambidextrous, but the side buttons are only on the left side. Most hand sizes can use with any grip style. However, smaller hands may struggle with a fingertip or claw grip. With a palm grip, this mouse should fit any hand size, though persons with extra-large hands may struggle to reach the rear side button. Excellent for claw grip for everyone except individuals with small hands, who may work to switch between side buttons without adjusting their grip on the mouse. Except for people with little hands, the mouse is too large for them to reach the side buttons while still retaining decent control.
WIRELESS VERSATILITY AND CABLES
ROCCAT Burst Core
This is a wired mouse only. The ROCCAT Burst Core features an excellent rubber cable that is reasonably light and flexible. However, it retains a lot of kinks from the packaging and curls up during use. The mouse feet are amazing, and despite the fact that they are not made of virgin-grade PTFE, they glide smoothly across mousepads and surfaces with little scratching or resistance. Although the mouse does not come with additional feet, third-party replacements are available.
ROCCAT Burst Pro
The ROCCAT Burst Pro is a wired mouse only. The ROCCAT Burst Pro boasts an outstanding lightweight and flexible cable. It still has minor kinks from the packaging, but it’s a vast improvement over the line that came with the ROCCAT Tyon mouse. The ROCCAT Burst Pro has incredible feet. They’re composed of virgin grade PTFE that ROCCAT claims are “pre-tuned,” They provide a smooth gliding sensation whether on a mouse pad or directly on a surface. The mouse has some extra feet, and third-party feet are available if needed.
CONTROL
ROCCAT Burst Core
On the left, there are two side buttons and a profile change button. You can even add a second layer of commands by programming an Easy-Shift[+] button. The ROCCAT Burst Core features low click latency, and even competitive gamers will likely find it responsive. The ROCCAT Burst Core has a large CPI range that can be adjusted in 100 increments. There are four polling rate presets 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, and 1000Hz.
It also has a very low CPI variation, so you’re unlikely to notice any cursor undershooting or overshooting whether you move your mouse swiftly or slowly. However, because the maximum lift-off distance is large, you may find that you must raise the mouse significantly to keep the sensor from tracking when relocating your mouse. The ROCCAT Burst Core comes with a conventional scroll wheel that allows for smooth transitions between defined steps. Although it has a grooved rubber surface finish, it lacks L/R tilt controls.
ROCCAT Burst Pro
The ROCCAT Burst Pro contains a lot of buttons, including two extra side buttons and a CPI switch. Apart from the L/R click, all of the buttons can be programmed. The L/R click buttons are powered by ROCCAT’s patented Titan Optical switches, rated for 100 million clicks. You can also configure an Easy-Shift[+] controller to provide an additional layer of commands for as long as you hold it down. It features a wide CPI range that can be changed in 50-point increments, but it’s unreliable, and the CPI fluctuates quite a bit depending on whether you move your cursor slowly or quickly. The lift-off distance is short enough that it should not track your movement while repositioning your mouse, and you can select one of four polling rates: 125Hz, 250Hz, 500Hz, or 1000Hz. The scroll wheel of the ROCCAT Burst Pro is quite typical, with no horizontal tilt. It’s constructed of rubber and feels smooth and precise.
OPERATING SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE
ROCCAT Burst Core
The ROCCAT Swarm software is fantastic, allowing you to modify lighting settings, adjust sensors, and save custom profiles to onboard memory. Sadly, it’s not very user-friendly, and things like the macro manager are particularly clumsy. While all buttons operate with macOS, it is only partially compatible because no macOS partner program can make customized adjustments.
ROCCAT Burst Pro
The ROCCAT Swarm software has numerous customization options like RGB, CPI, and polling rate modifications. Regrettably, it is not user-friendly because it appears and feels difficult to operate. It is incompatible with Mac OS. It has onboard memory, so you can save your settings on a Windows PC and then use them on a Mac without installing any software. The ROCCAT Burst Pro is fully Windows compatible, and all default button functions work on macOS. Because there is no compatible software for macOS, you cannot program the buttons or make any adjustments.
